Meet Our New Cycle 1 Educator: Gwen Doyle

We are thrilled to welcome Gwen to our Southern Montessori community!

With 18 years of experience in education both locally and internationally, Gwen brings a fresh perspective, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for learning and building connections.

We invite you to get to know her a little better through this short Q&A…

1. Where were you beforehand?

I was teaching in a small country school in Mount Burr, Australia. Prior to coming to Australia, I taught in a small Montessori school in Rome, Italy. I have also taught in Thailand, Scotland and Ireland.

2. What inspires you as a Montessori educator?

I am inspired by how The Montessori approach follows the child. It is precious to witness children growing in confidence through mastering skills and collaborating with others. It is also beautiful to see them learn through play and to work peacefully with others.

3. What is your most memorable teaching moment?

My most memorable moment was, and still is, observing the beautiful energy when children are working independently and confidently as they have learned the skills and strategies they need to have agency over their learning.

4. Five things you might not know about me:

I can speak the Irish language and do a little Irish dancing. I have over 40 first cousins. I love the ocean. I love travelling. I have two young children, a 3 and a 5 year old who go to Southern Montessori.

5. What does your weekend look like?

My weekend usually involves a visit to a wildlife park or zoo. I call my family overseas in Ireland and the UK when it is my morning and their night time. We visit family and friends in Adelaide and go for dinner or lunch together.

6. Favourite Maria Montessori quote:

Of all things, love is the most potent.” I love this quote because it is something I feel to be true in my soul.
