Preschool – Exploring Seven Continents
This term, our Preschool cultural studies will continue as we explore the Seven Continents in greater depth. Each continent will be studied individually, allowing the children to make connections between geography, animals and habitats. Our new focus on vertebrates and invertebrates links beautifully to this work, as we discover which animals live in different parts of the world and how their body structures help them survive and thrive in their environments.
To deepen this understanding, we have introduced real animal bones into our classroom environment for the children to observe and handle. These bones, collected from farm animals, have already inspired thoughtful conversations as children compare them to their own skeletons, wondering which bones might be similar and which are unique to humans. This hands-on exploration encourages discovery, observation and classification, while nurturing a scientific curiosity about the natural world.

We are also delighted to share that we have welcomed silkworms into our classroom! The children have been learning to gently care for them by feeding them fresh mulberry leaves, maintaining their habitat, and observing their lifecycle. This living experience enables the children to witness the fascinating transformation from silkworm to cocoon and eventually to moth, deepening their understanding of life cycles and their respect for living things.
As always, we look forward to a term filled with learning, growth and joyful moments as we celebrate the achievements of each child in our Montessori community.
